Overview

Precision mold base plates are the structural foundation of every injection mold and compression mold. These plates locate and support the cavity inserts, core inserts, and ejection system while withstanding the full clamping force of the molding machine. Our mold base plates are machined and surface-ground to tight flatness and parallelism tolerances, ensuring the mold assembles correctly and seals properly under full tonnage.

We produce mold base plates in standard and custom configurations, including A-plates (cavity side), B-plates (core side), stripper plates, support plates, and ejector plates. Each plate is manufactured from pre-hardened tool steel for dimensional stability and machinability, then precision-ground on the critical mating surfaces.

Key Features

  • Tight flatness control: Surface-ground to 0.005 mm flatness across the full plate surface
  • Parallelism accuracy: Top and bottom surfaces held parallel within 0.01 mm
  • Pre-hardened steel: P20, 4140, and A2 supplied at 28–34 HRC for stability and wear resistance
  • Standard and custom configurations: Compatible with Hasco, LKM, DME, and custom mold base designs
  • Guide system precision: Guide pin and bushing bores machined in a single setup for true positioning
  • Surface finish: Ground to Ra 0.4–0.8 μm on mating surfaces for accurate insert fit

Manufacturing Process

  1. Material selection — Pre-hardened tool steel plate cut to rough size from certified stock
  2. Rough milling — CNC milling removes excess material and establishes the plate profile
  3. Stress relief — Thermal stress relief to stabilize the plate before precision machining
  4. Finish milling — All holes, pockets, and features machined to near-final dimensions
  5. Surface grinding — Precision surface grinding on mating surfaces for flatness and parallelism
  6. Guide system machining — Guide pin holes, bushing pockets, and locating dowels machined in a single setup
  7. Quality inspection — CMM verification of flatness, parallelism, hole positions, and surface finish
