Overview

ORROMFG manufactures custom linear guide rails and shaft support rails for precision motion control systems used in CNC machinery, automation equipment, and material handling applications. Our CNC machined guide rails are produced from hardened and ground steel shafting, delivering straightness, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy essential for smooth linear motion and consistent positioning repeatability.

We produce both solid shaft guide rails and supported shaft rails with integrated mounting features. Our machining capability covers precision drilling and tapping of mounting holes, machining of journal ends for bearing mounting, and grinding of guide surfaces to achieve the required hardness and surface finish. Rails can be supplied in hardened carbon steel (HRC 58-62) or stainless steel for corrosion-resistant applications.

These linear guide rails are commonly paired with linear ball bushings and slide units in pneumatic and electric actuators, robotic handling systems, and precision assembly equipment. Key Features

  • High straightness precision: Guide rails manufactured to straightness tolerances of 0.1 mm/m or better
  • Hardened surfaces: Induction hardened and ground guide surfaces at HRC 58-62 for long service life
  • Custom lengths and profiles — Rails cut and machined to any required length with mounting features
  • Corrosion-resistant options: Stainless steel grades for food, medical, and marine applications
  • Complete machining — Drilling, tapping, journal turning, and shoulder machining per drawing

Materials

  • Hardened Carbon Steel (SUJ2 / GCr15) — Standard guide rail material with HRC 58-62 surface hardness
  • 45# Carbon Steel (AISI 1045) — Induction hardened rails for general industrial applications
  • 42CrMo Alloy Steel (AISI 4140) — High-strength guide rails for heavy-load motion systems
  • 304 / 316 Stainless Steel — Corrosion-resistant guide rails for cleanroom and washdown environments
  • Aluminum (6061-T6) — Lightweight guide rails for low-load and high-speed applications

Manufacturing Process

  1. Material selection — Hardened and ground shafting or certified bar stock per application
  2. Cutting — Precision sawing to required rail lengths with end squareness control
  3. CNC turning — Machining of journal ends, shoulders, and bearing seats
  4. CNC drilling and tapping — Mounting hole patterns drilled and tapped to drawing specifications
  5. Surface grinding — Finish grinding of guide surfaces for straightness and surface finish
  6. Heat treatment — Induction hardening of guide surfaces where increased hardness is required
  7. Inspection — Straightness measurement, hardness testing, and dimensional verification
