Overview

ORROMFG produces custom spur gears manufactured to customer drawings for industrial power transmission, speed reduction, and motion control applications. Our CNC machined spur gears are produced using precision gear hobbing, gear milling, and gear grinding processes to achieve accurate tooth profiles, consistent pitch, and smooth meshing characteristics. We manufacture spur gears in module sizes from 1 to 12 and beyond, with tooth counts and face widths tailored to specific torque and speed requirements.

Each gear is machined from certified bar or forged stock, with post-machining heat treatment including carburizing, quenching, and tempering to achieve the required surface hardness and core toughness. Our quality control includes gear tooth inspection via gear measurement centers, verifying involute profile, helix deviation, and pitch accuracy to DIN 3962 or AGMA 2000-A88 standards.

These spur gears are widely deployed in industrial gearboxes, conveyor drives, mining equipment, and material handling systems. For compatible drivetrain shafts, explore our Hot Forged Steel Shafts, or learn more about our CNC Machining capabilities.

Key Features

  • Accurate tooth profiles: Gear hobbing and grinding to DIN 8-7 precision class
  • Wide module range: Module 1 to 12 with custom tooth counts and pressure angles
  • Heat treatment options: Carburizing, induction hardening, and through-hardening per application
  • Material flexibility: Carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel for diverse service conditions
  • Complete inspection: Gear tooth measurement with involute, helix, and pitch verification

Materials

  • 45# Carbon Steel (AISI 1045) — General-purpose gear steel for moderate load applications
  • 20CrMnTi (AISI 5120) — Carburizing grade for high surface hardness and tough core
  • 42CrMo (AISI 4140) — Quenched and tempered alloy steel for heavy-duty gears
  • 304 / 316 Stainless Steel — Corrosion-resistant gears for food, pharmaceutical, and marine service
  • Cast Iron (GG25 / GG40) — Low-noise gears for light-load and low-speed applications

Manufacturing Process

  1. Blank preparation — Sawing of certified bar stock or forged blanks to rough dimensions
  2. CNC turning — Rough and finish turning of hub, bore, and OD to gear blank specifications
  3. Gear hobbing — Precision gear hobbing of spur teeth with dedicated hobbing machines
  4. Gear milling — Single-tooth milling for prototype and low-volume custom gears
  5. Heat treatment — Carburizing, quenching, and tempering to achieve required hardness
  6. Gear grinding — Finish grinding of hardened gear teeth for high-precision applications
  7. Inspection — Gear tooth measurement, hardness testing, and dimensional verification
