Overview
Our injection mold cavities are precision-machined components that form the negative geometry of plastic injection molded parts. Manufactured from premium tool steels and finished to mirror-polish standards, these cavities deliver consistent part quality across high-cavitation production runs.
Each cavity is machined on 5-axis CNC centers capable of producing complex 3D curved surfaces, deep ribs, and undercut features in a single setup. This approach eliminates the cumulative tolerance stack-up associated with multiple repositioning operations, resulting in cavities that hold dimensional accuracy throughout the mold’s service life.
Key Features
- Complex 3D geometry: 5-axis simultaneous machining for organic part geometries and freeform surfaces
- Mirror polish finish: Ra 0.025–0.1 μm on cosmetic surfaces for optical-quality part reproduction
- Hardened steel construction: Heat-treated to 48–52 HRC for wear resistance across long production runs
- Conformal cooling ready: Cavities designed to accept conformal cooling channels for cycle time optimization
- Multi-cavity consistency: Cavity-to-cavity dimensional variation held within ±0.01 mm for balanced filling
Manufacturing Process
- Material preparation — Forged tool steel blocks cut to rough size and stress-relieved
- Rough machining — High-efficiency 5-axis roughing removes bulk material while maintaining stock for finishing
- Heat treatment — Vacuum hardening to 48–52 HRC followed by tempering for dimensional stability
- Finish machining — 5-axis finish milling with small-diameter ball end mills for 3D surface generation
- EDM detailing — Sinker and wire EDM for deep ribs, sharp corners, and undercut features
- Polishing — Manual and automated polishing to achieve the required surface finish, from texture to optical mirror
- Quality inspection — CMM dimensional verification, surface roughness measurement, and hardness testing
